The holiday season, a time of joy, festivities, and the warmth of togetherness. Yet, how often do we find ourselves glued to our screens, responding to emails, and tethered to work even during this magical time?
Today I am back at work after spending several days in beautiful Leavenworth, Washington. The magic was on full display and I got to experience it with eyes wide open while being fully present for the first time in over 10 years. It's was different.
Embracing the Present Moment
In the midst of the holiday rush, it's easy to forget that this season is a precious chapter in the story of our lives. It's a time meant for creating lasting memories with loved ones, moments that will be cherished long after the ornaments are packed away. While I was truly unplugged these last few days I noticed things that I would have otherwise missed if I was head down in my phone checking on employees and ensuring there weren't fires to be put out.
The Illusion of Busyness
We often fall into the illusion that our work is too demanding to take a real break. But here's the truth: the emails, the projects, the deadlines – they will be waiting when we return. However, the opportunity to be present and fully engaged in the magic of the season may not. True happiness isn't found in our work, it's found in the memories we get to make with the ones we hold closest.
Creating Space for Memories
Imagine a Christmas where you're not juggling work calls and holiday preparations but are fully present, savoring every laugh, every shared meal, every quiet moment by the fire. You may not be able to get there right now, but I hope you know that it's available, and it's life-changing.
The Gift of Presence
As we navigate the digital age, the gift of our undivided attention has become one of the most precious presents we can give. This holiday season, consider the impact of truly unplugging – setting aside the devices, silencing the notifications, and immersing yourself in the gift of presence.
Remembering Christmas 2023
Close your eyes and envision how you want to remember Christmas 2023. Is it a memory filled with the glow of screens and the hum of work-related stress? Or is it a memory of genuine smiles, heartfelt conversations, and the warmth of connection? What emotions do you want to feel during this season? What results do you want? This is 1000% within your control.
A Promise to Yourself
This holiday season, make a promise to yourself and your loved ones. Declare your commitment to truly unplugging, to being present, and to creating memories that will be woven into the tapestry of your family's history.
Remember -
The work will still be there when you return, but the chance to make this holiday season truly special is fleeting. Unplug, savor, and immerse yourself in the joy of the present moment. Your future self will thank you for the memories you create today.
Remember, life is short, and these moments are the building blocks of a life well-lived.
Cheering for you,
Bre
